Sirish Subash is a young innovator whose lifelong curiosity about the natural world drives solutions for global challenges. After learning about climate change, he wrote Carbon Block Puzzle (2021), an accessible guide that demystifies its causes and solutions, and delivered community talks to inspire action. During COVID-19, he delved into biochemistry, leading to Biochemistry the Fun Way (2023), a graphic novel to spark biochemistry interest.
In October 2024, he won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge and America’s Top Young Scientist for PestiSCAND, a handheld pesticide residue detector empowering consumers to quickly identify harmful residues on produce. Building on that success, he developed PlastiSeek, a handheld spectrophotometry-based detector that in under three seconds identifies PET, PA, PP, and HDPE microplastics in water with over 91% accuracy—making day-to-day, affordable testing practical.
Through these projects, Sirish has honed rigorous research methods, innovative problem-solving, and clear science communication. He continues refining his detectors, pursuing new inventions, collaborating with peers, and using scientific innovation as a force for positive change.
